Testing Score Methodology

Every product on KCompounds has its own Testing Score, worked out by the database from lab reports, by the rules on this page. A supplier's number is the average of its tested products. Nobody scores, weighs, approves or adjusts a number.

The Evidence

A lab report counts once it is verified: we find it on the laboratory's own website and read the numbers there. No number comes from a PDF, and nobody types one in.

Each report is read twice, by two separate machine readings of the laboratory's page, compared part by part: who the report is for, its dates, its batch, its sample and its results. When they differ, a third reading settles each part by majority. A report whose readings do not agree is read again later, and counts for nothing until they do.

A 0 needs more. Three further readings, each taken on its own, must find the same reason for it. Until they do, the report waits and counts for nothing.

A report filed under the wrong compound moves to the compound the laboratory found, when the catalogue has it. One the catalogue cannot match yet counts for nothing, and is matched again the moment the compound is added. Every laboratory counts: a report is read on the laboratory's own site, whichever laboratory it is. One that cannot be confirmed there, or has no address on a laboratory's site, is shown as not verified. It counts for nothing, and is no mark against the supplier.

A supplier files a report once. A factory report may sit on several suppliers' profiles, one copy each, and every copy says how many suppliers share it.

Who Filed It

How much a verified report weighs depends on when it was filed and by whom. It is what stops a supplier from testing ten vials and showing only the one that passed.

  • Registered first. Before a vial goes to the laboratory, the supplier registers the test on KCompounds and gets a code to write in the sample's name. The laboratory prints it on the report. A report that carries its supplier's code counts in full.
  • Filed after. A report without a registered code counts half as much, when it names the supplier as the client or the maker.
  • At launch. A report filed on or before 31 Oct 2026 counts in full, so a supplier joining at launch is not marked down for tests made before it could register them.
  • Factory report. A report the laboratory issued to a manufacturer the supplier declares on its profile, not to the supplier, counts half as much. It is marked as a factory report, it earns no depth bonus, and the same report may count for every supplier that sells the batch.
  • Not named. A report that names neither the supplier, its code nor a manufacturer it declares, or that carries another supplier's code, is shown and counts for nothing.
  • No report. A registered test whose report is not filed within 60 days counts as a 0, in full, from the day it lapsed. A test can be cancelled in its first 24 hours only, before any result could exist.
  • Buyers. A report a buyer files on a vial bought here weighs 3 times a supplier's own, because the supplier did not choose the vial.

One Report

Each verified report earns a score out of 100.

Extra tests
+30
at most
  • 70 for the right compound, at least 90% of the amount on the label and at least 98% purity.
  • 35 for the right compound short on amount or purity: a printed line under one of those, or a report that shows neither the amount against a label nor the purity.
  • Judged on what the laboratory printed. The amount is judged when the laboratory printed one and the label is known; purity when the laboratory printed one. The right compound at the amount line with no purity line reads 70, marked quantity only; at the purity line with no amount to measure reads 70, marked purity only. Not shown is not short.
  • 0 for the wrong compound, a vial holding under 50% of its label, a substance the product should not contain, or a failed extra test.
  • Up to 30 more for extra tests the laboratory ran and passed: endotoxin 10, sterility 10, heavy metals 5 and residual solvents 5.
  • A water (bacteriostatic or sterile water) has no compound, amount or purity to judge. It scores 70 on the laboratory's confirmation, plus its extra tests, and 0 when one of them fails.

A blend is judged part by part, and its weakest part stands. A report that tests several vials is graded on the weakest, and each passing vial counts for depth. Where the laboratory prints a number and no verdict, the line it is judged by is endotoxin at most 5 EU per mg. A test with no line is shown and not scored. Extra tests issued as a report of their own add their points to the reports of the same batch.

One Product

A product is one supplier selling one compound, whatever the size. Its Testing Score is the plain average of its verified reports from the last 180 days, each weighed as Who Filed It says. Nothing else enters it: no market average, no fading.

Depth. Each extra passing vial on the same product inside those days adds 5 points, up to 15. One passing report reads 70. Three read 80. A report that tests three vials counts as three. Factory reports earn no depth.

Out of the window. A report older than 180 days counts for nothing. A product with no report inside the window has no number: it reads Last tested, with the date, or No current score when it never had one. No current score is not a failed test and not a 0: it says only that no verified report from inside the window is on file. The days run from the test date the laboratory printed; a laboratory that prints none counts from the day we confirmed the report on its site.

A failed test shows. A current report that scored 0 is counted in the number and is also named beside it, however high the other reports lift the average.

A product's number moves the moment one of its reports is verified, corrected or removed, and every night as reports leave the window.

One Supplier

A supplier's Testing Score is the plain average of its tested products: the ones with a verified report inside the window. An untested product counts in nothing; on the supplier's page it reads No current score, which is not a failed test and not a 0.

The directory ranks suppliers by how many of their products have a passing test, at 70 or more, then by that average, then by the newest report. So a supplier that tests more of what it sells ranks above one with a higher average from fewer products. A supplier whose tests have all left the window reads Last tested and sorts under those with a current one; a supplier with no verified test at all reads No current score, underneath: not a failure, no evidence yet. How much it sells counts for nothing.

On a compound's page each supplier shows its Testing Score for that compound alone, and prices sort by that score first, then by price per mg: the price over the milligrams in the pack. Any column sorts on a click. Price, shipping, fees and sales never enter the score.

Failed Tests

When a laboratory confirms a 0, it counts in that product's Testing Score like any other result, and the product's number moves with it. Nothing stands in the number's place: the failed report sits in the supplier's own lab reports, with what the laboratory found, in which product and when. Taking the product off sale does not take it off the record. A registered test with no report counts as a 0 the same way.

When It Runs

A report verified, corrected or removed recomputes that supplier at once. Every night registered tests past their days close as 0s, and every supplier is recomputed, because reports leave the window by the day. Every change to a number you can see is kept, with the run that made it.

Changes

A change to a setting needs a reason. It moves the version, scores every report again from what the laboratory printed, and recomputes every supplier. It applies from the moment it is made.
