From Cleaning to Crimping: A Vial Fill-Finish Walkthrough

A quick visual walkthrough ( I have a more in depth breakdown coming later )

This video shows a standard vial-based production workflow used for lyophilised (freeze-dried) products.

The sequence follows a typical fill-finish process:

1️⃣ Cleaning

Empty glass vials are first accumulated and fed into a washing system.

They are rinsed internally and externally to remove particulates and manufacturing debris.

2️⃣ Sterilisation (Dry Heat / Depyrogenation)

After washing, the vials pass through a high-temperature tunnel to sterilise the glass and reduce endotoxin contamination before they enter the aseptic zone.

3️⃣ Filling

Sterile vials are filled with liquid product under controlled conditions.

The Siemens HMI panel shown in the video controls this stage, coordinating indexing, fill volumes, sensors and timing.

4️⃣ Freeze Drying

The vials are transferred to a freeze dryer (lyophiliser), where water is removed under vacuum through sublimation.

5️⃣ Final Closure (Crimping)

After drying, the stopper is fully seated and an aluminium cap is crimped over the vial to secure the closure.

This video captures the mechanical flow of the process, from vial preparation through filling, stoppering, freeze-drying, and final sealing.
