Video walkthrough of the lyophilisation stage at Aaron Biochemapi facility
The following footage, recorded inside Aaron’s Biochemapi Peptide facility, shows the freeze drying (lyophilisation) stage of the manufacturing process.
Clip 1; Loading the Freeze Dryer
Workers placing trays into the chamber/ close view of trays and shelves
Here we see trays of partially stoppered vials being loaded into the freeze dryer.
At this stage the product inside the vials has already been filled and the rubber stoppers have been inserted loosely. The trays are carefully positioned onto temperature controlled shelves inside the product chamber.
The shelves are connected to a refrigeration and heating system that allows precise control of the temperature throughout the freeze-drying cycle.
Clip 2; Closing the Freeze Dryer
Operator sealing the chamber door
After loading, the chamber door is closed and sealed.
The system is then evacuated using a vacuum pump, lowering the pressure inside the chamber.
At the same time, the condenser is cooled to a temperature much lower than the product shelves.
Clip 3; The stoppering step
At the end of the cycle the freeze dryer performs in chamber stoppering.
At the end of the drying cycle the freeze dryer shelves collapse downward, pressing the partially inserted rubber stoppers fully into the vial necks and sealing the product inside the chamber before it is removed for crimp capping.
Freeze drying is only one part of the process. Before the vials ever enter the freeze dryer, they first have to be cleaned, sterilised, and filled with the liquid formulation.
In the next section we’ll look at how the vials are prepared and filled before the freeze drying stage begins
