Shipping Delays, Seizures, and FedEx Rumours

Separating fact from rumour in a system under increasing scrutiny

Krysia

There’s been a lot of chatter recently about

Delayed shipments.

Seizures.

FedEx suspensions.

Fatality rumours.

But as with most things, what’s circulating is a mix of fact and rumour.

So this is a breakdown of what we actually know and what we don’t;

What we know

1. There has been a backlog at customs

Multiple sources are reporting delays affecting FedEx shipments.

The consistent explanation is increased inspections, resulting backlog, temporary holding of packages

We now also have confirmation that some of these shipments have been released

This means it’s congestion and inspection, not shutdown.

2. Hong Kong has increased enforcement activity

In February 2026, Hong Kong Customs confirmed it had stepped up enforcement operations targeting the smuggling of controlled injections and medicines. This is from an official statement.

Hong Kong is a major transit hub, so when enforcement tightens there, it shows up as more inspections, more holds, and more delays across shipping routes

It is also worth noting that on March 26, FedEx announced the launch of its Surround monitoring and intervention suite in China. This was framed as a logistics and visibility tool, not a public suspension of peptide shipments. Even so, its language around monitoring, intervention and special handling landed just days before CBP publicised a seizure case involving more than 5,000 unapproved peptides from China. That does not prove a direct link, but it does place the current shipping delays inside a wider context of heightened oversight.

3. Shipping is still happening

Despite everything being said, some FedEx shipments are still arriving. alternative shipping lines are operating, packages are moving, just less predictably

The outcomes right now are mixed, some shipments delayed, some returned, some delivered as normal.

What is being claimed

At the same time, a number of stronger claims are circulating.

A fatality linked to imported peptides from China, with U.S. government escalation following that.

FedEx suspending peptide shipments across China

Market-wide shipping shutdowns

These claims are spreading quickly. But they are not all grounded in verified sources.

What is not confirmed

At the time of writing, is no verified fatality report tied to this situation.

There is no official statement from FedEx confirming a blanket suspension of peptide shipments

There is no confirmed U.S. China policy escalation specific to peptides

There is no evidence of a complete halt in shipping, because shipments are still being received.

What this actually looks like ( for now)

Inspection activity has increased

Shipments are being delayed and checked more often

Some packages are being released after hold

Shipping routes are adjusting

delivery flow is still happening

The knock on effect is reps are dealing with a surge in shipping queries, while customers, already wary of scams and impersonators, are jumping straight to the conclusion they’ve been scammed.

Since posting this, i’ve been contacted by a customs broker for FedEx imports who has this to say

Everyone is under the impression that there’s more monitoring going on and they’re only half right. In comparison to the amount of volume being brought in on a daily basis, less than 0.1% get stopped by customs to be reviewed.

Side note: Customs does not review every shipment that they stop. They’ll be lucky to go through half of the shipments they stop. Most of the time, the shipments that are released are delayed due to them forgetting about the package

When compared to the amount of volume coming through, there’s a minimal amount actually being stopped. Any packages being delayed from CN side is due to their government so I can’t speak on much for that portion. The other thing people don’t seem to realize is the amount of CBP officers that are actually active in field inspections for air cargo. I can’t give specifics but it’s nowhere near the amount some people think there is.

Most of the time these packages that are being stopped are due to the commercial invoices being too vague or the description not matching the package dimensions/weight.

Example: if the commercial invoice states garden shears and the package is a 6x6x4, that’s suspicious. FedEx won’t put a hold on it but Customs ACE System will flag it for a CBP officer to review

Opinion from a USA vendor receiving shipments from china

They say that this looks less like a new shutdown and more like a familiar post Chinese New Year pattern: factory inspections take place throughout March and during this time USA customs inspections increase, shipments slow down, and panic fills the gap. Their view is that delays are being mistaken for something more dramatic, and that some vendors benefit from encouraging that interpretation.
